Here it goes!
Step 1: Make a List of Compliments
Grab a blank sheet of paper or start a note in your phone
Identify a group of people you interact with regularly and think of two complimentary adjectives for each person. Write them down. If you have 10 people you’ll have 20 adjectives. If you want to use the same adjective for multiple people go for it - no need to write it down twice. The idea is to have a list of complimentary adjectives that are direct thoughts about someone you know (shoot for 15-20 adjectives to start).
Step 2: Mirror Mirror
Pick two adjectives from your master list
Every morning for 1 week look in the mirror and say “I am {adjective 1}! I am {adjective 2}”
*It takes one to know one - so if you were able to identify these qualities in others it means you possess them too.
Step 3: Put it into Action
As you go through your day and interact with people look for the awesomeness in everyone you engage with. Note down these qualities on your list so you keep growing it. If you are comfortable (or even if you’re not but want to anyway) offer that person one of those compliments. You just may make someone’s day. Bonus for you is that it feels good to make others feel good.
Since your list will continue to grow, you can switch up what you say to yourself in the mirror every week. Keep picking two new adjectives weekly.
Overall being nice to others, being nice to ourselves and going out into the world looking for the best in people is a no brainer. It may feel a bit vulnerable at first but you may find it liberating!
Give it a try. I’d love to hear your experiences as well! Feel free to write them in a comment or write me directly!
